I HATE winter. I don’t like the colorlessness of it, I don’t like snow and ice, I don’t like the temperature plunging below zero.  The only reason that I’m here in Minne-freezing-sota is that I’m married to my DH who happens to live here.  If it were up to me, we’d be somewhere warm, green all year round, with some real beaches (seaside, NOT lakeside), and absolutely no snow. But until such time (perhaps when DH retires), I have to endure.

March 20, 2005, 8:00am.  Driveway is under a thick layer of ice and snow, but the sun wasn’t up enough yet to shine on the driveway to melt some of the compacted snow and ice.

I started shoveling at noon, and it took me 4 hours and 15 minutes to get all the snow and ice out of the driveway. During that time it was warm enough for the snow to melt and some of the ice to break after a bit of pounding with the shovel.
